RESIDENTIAL REDEVELOPMENT
Crystal's Economic Development Authority (EDA) works to improve the housing stock by purchasing older, smaller houses in generally poor condition on a voluntary basis from willing sellers. The EDA typically demolishes these homes and makes the lots available for construction of new single family houses. The EDA also sometimes creates new house lots by redeveloping infill sites.

COMMERCIAL REDEVELOPMENT
Crystal's Economic Development Authority (EDA) is working to improve the economic vigor and quality of life in the Crystal community. One of the ways of achieving this goal is through redevelopment of properties for increased business or industrial operations, in order to enhance the City's tax base and create job opportunities. Projects completed in recent years include the following:

Business Commons Crystal Business Commons. Due to Crystal's ongoing success with retail development, the EDA has shifted its focus towards office and light industrial development, including office/showroom, light manufacturing, and warehousing/distribution. It is hoped that this will expand employment opportunities in the community. The City's first such project, Crystal Business Commons, was completed in 2000. It is located along the northeast side of County Road 81 between Wilshire Boulevard and Bass Lake Road. Developed by Industrial Equities, it is a 92,000 sq. ft. mixed use light industrial building with office, showroom, light manufacturing and/or distribution uses.
Town Center Crystal Town Center. This is a new retail center located at the northeast corner of Bass Lake Road and West Broadway. The site was formerly made up of several small blighted parcels that the EDA acquired and assembled for redevelopment. The result - Crystal Town Center, completed in 1998. It has received an award from the Minnesota Shopping Center Association for its design, which enhances the appearance of the retail and office development clustered around the intersection of Bass Lake Road and West Broadway.
Cub Cub Foods (former Mielke Field site). This site was previously used for athletic fields for the former Robbinsdale Senior High School, but difficulties with soil conditions made EDA involvement necessary for redevelopment to occur. In 1993, redevelopment of this site was completed with the opening of a Cub Foods supermarket.
