Crystal will have three council seats on the 2026 general election ballot. The terms for three council seats representing Ward 1 and Ward 2 in southern Crystal, and Section 2 (Wards 3 and 4) in northern Crystal, expire at the end of 2026. ​ The council member filing period is open from May 19 to June 2. ​ For information about filing, polling locations, absentee voting, registration, and more, visit go.crystalmn.gov/vote.

The City of Crystal invites residents and business owners to a community information meeting on Wednesday, May 27 at 6 p.m. at Crystal City Hall. The city is facing rising costs to maintain and replace aging streets and utility systems, including water, stormwater, and sewer infrastructure. As part of the 2027 budget process, the Crystal City Council is reviewing funding options for these long-term needs.

Crystal is developing its first-ever Climate Action Plan—Resilient Crystal 2035. A meeting to share progress and gather feedback from residents is May 23.

The City of Crystal, through the West Metro Fire-Rescue District, is working with Smart911 to notify residents via email, text, phone or social media when there are emergencies. To receive these mass notifications, residents must opt in, sign up for an account and share the varying levels of information that they want police, fire and EMS to utilize when responding to a 9-1-1 call. The City of Crystal is upgrading water meter radio transmitters throughout the community at no direct cost to homeowners. As work progresses, residents may notice members of the Public Works team on their property to complete the installation. Most upgrades will be quick and non-intrusive, and staff will identify themselves when onsite.

To better serve residents and improve clarity, the City of Crystal has updated its parking ordinance, with changes going into effect on Aug. 23, 2025. These updates clarify the city’s overnight parking rules, permit process, and snow emergency enforcement.

Looking to make a difference in Crystal? The city is currently accepting applications for several volunteer seats on city boards and commissions. These groups help guide city decisions on business growth, inclusion, sustainability and more.

In 2025, the recycling program in the City of Crystal expanded to include the curbside collection of organics. Organics consist of food scraps and non-recyclable paper such as napkins and paper towels, and it will be collected weekly on the same day as residents’ trash. Organics should be put in a compostable bag. Compostable bags can be found in many stores such as Menards and Target. Compostable bags have the BPI logo on the box and bag. Paper shopping bags are also acceptable.

Crystal property owners can view their current and past water usage and set up alerts via the city’s new SENSUS Customer Portal.
