The Crystal City Council is composed of a mayor and six council members. The city is divided into two sections and four wards. The mayor is elected at large; council members must reside in the section (if filing for a section seat) or ward (if filing for a ward seat) of the city in which they are running for office.

A municipal primary election will be held on Aug. 11, 2020 for the following office: Council Member Ward 4.

This year’s municipal general election will be held on Nov. 3, 2020, and consist of electing a member to the following offices (all seats are four-year terms):

   • Mayor
   • Council Member Section I
   • Council Member Ward 3
   • Council Member Ward 4

EARLY VOTING OPTIONS
All eligible voters in Crystal can vote absentee — either by mail or in person at the Hennepin County Government Center — now through Aug. 10. There is no early, in-person voting at Crystal City Hall.

Vote Early by Mail
Voters must fill out an application online or on paper to receive a ballot. Paper applications are available in English, Spanish, Hmong, Somali, Vietnamese, Russian, Chinese, Lao, Oromo, Khmer and Amharic.

Voters are not required to be pre-registered to vote to apply to vote absentee. To make the process easier, voters may want to register or ensure you are registered before applying for an absentee ballot.

Ballots will be mailed to voters within one to two days of receiving the application. 

For the 2020 state primary, absentee ballots must be postmarked on or before election day Aug. 11, 2020 and received by Aug. 13, 2020.

Vote Early in Person
Voters who live in Hennepin County can also vote absentee in person at the Hennepin County Government Center – 300 S. Sixth Street, Minneapolis – skyway level. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

 Sept. 18  General Election: In-person absentee voting begins
 Oct. 13  General Election: Voter pre-registration ends at 5 p.m.
 Oct. 31  General Election: In-person absentee voting extended hours: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
 Nov. 2  General Election: In-person absentee voting extended hours: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
 Nov. 3   General Election: Polls open 7 a.m. - 8 p.m.
