Crystal Public Works

The Water Division maintains the city’s water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage infrastructure and performs utility locates. The City of Crystal is a member of the Joint Water Commission (includes Golden Valley and New Hope) and purchases water from the City of Minneapolis.

SEWER REPAIR GRANT
Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) has provided funding for a new grant for Crystal homeowners needing to line, repair or replace their sewer service. The MCES grant is only for work that reduces infiltration and inflow of groundwater, stormwater or sump pump discharge into the sanitary sewer system.

MCES Grant Informational Flyer

• Your contractor will need to provide video of the existing sewer to the city to verify the existing infiltration and inflow problem.
• Only owner-occupied (Homestead) residential property is eligible for the MCES grant.
• The MCES grant is for 50% of the cost up to a maximum grant of $5,000.
• There is no maximum household income or income limit for the MCES grant.

Sewer lining, repair and replacement are also eligible costs under the city’s Home Improvement Grant program which does have income limits and other requirements. If you qualify for a Home Improvement Grant then you can use it in conjunction with the MCES grant but you have to apply separately for each grant. The Home Improvement Grant pays 40% of the sewer cost not covered by the 50% MCES grant, meaning that with both grants, 70% of the cost would be covered for qualifying households. The Home Improvement Grant is administered for the city by Center for Energy and Environment and you can apply online.
